Stress Awareness Month 2024

This year’s theme for Stress Awareness Month, run by the Stress Management Society, is #LittleByLittle. Whether you are an entrepreneur or the owner of a small start up, keeping your business running is a tall order. It can require juggling multiple responsibilities while trying to stay afloat, creating a stressful work/life relationship that can be consuming.

But the business can never stop, so how can we remain calm in an otherwise hectic world? By taking things little by little. Making your life and business manageable by adjusting your routine.

1. Breakdown and Organise your Work

Utilising tools like CRMs, shared databases, and schedules can help make running a business that little bit easier. Investing time into setting this up, or calling on the support of a Virtual Assistant, can help relieve much of the burdens and stress of data entry. Saving time not only benefits yourself but also your business, with more time to work on the important things.

Keeping to realistic goals and schedules, without pushing to complete everything as soon as possible, can help you run far more effectively and efficiently. Maybe the big goals like preparing for a business expansion can be broken down. Becoming less daunting and difficult. Of course, prioritise as well what needs to be completed before an upcoming due date.

2. Good Habits

Stress is a natural response to an overwhelming sense of frustration and worry, which in turn can create more problems. Building on small, mental habits can help keep you sane despite the everyday noise of work. Sleeping, for example, is important in making sure your mind and body is well rested. It’s not only the act of going to sleep at the right time but preparing yourself to relax, detaching from the work and allowing yourself that moment of calm.

While at work, take the opportunity to see how you can remain active. Take a step back from the workplace and breathe for a minute or two. Take walks, inside or out, whenever possible. When you have completed something stressful, pause and focus on the here and now.

3. Delegating your Business

When all is said and done, the work can still just keep on coming. With no amount of small changes in your workplace or your mindset improving the stream of tasks. In this case, your business may have come to the point where you need more people. Delegating tasks to others is difficult at first but necessary for inevitable growth. No one person can run everything forever.

Hire staff to be fully trained and available at the times you need, or perhaps consider using Virtual Assistants. A cheaper alternative, with experience and knowledge in assisting entrepreneurs and start ups find their feet. As you start to build trust, you can rest assured your work is being completed at the quality you expect without the hassle or concerns.

Taking those Little Steps

Stress can be scary, building up into something that can affect you every second and offer no rest. But all it means is that you care. Running a business is an accomplishment in and of itself, requiring time and dedication. Having the faith to let go of certain, tedious tasks and delegating them to reliable support is a big step in reclaiming your time and life.
