Diversity and Inclusion Award Winner 2024

Elizabeth with her award on stage at The Business Desk leadership awards

The team here at Admin and More has been gearing up to celebrate this week as it is Neurodiversity Celebration Week (18th-22nd March). We are also preparing to welcome some new faces to our growing team thanks to our placement partnership with Northamptonshire Council’s Employment and Disability Service. So a busy week has been in the works for some time.

However, things took another much more unexpected twist late last week, when it was announced at TheBusinessDesk.com’s East Midlands Leadership Awards 2024 that we had triumphed in the Diversity and Inclusion category! The event took place in front of an audience of 250 business owners and leaders at the Crowne Plaza in Nottingham city centre so you can imagine Elizabeth’s reaction when she was asked to come on stage to accept the award! Eeeeek!

In total, 15 prizes were handed out and the standard of entries was higher than ever, said Sam Metcalf, Midlands editor.

“Congratulations to all our shortlisted and winning business leaders this evening. The judges had a heck of a job choosing who should come out on top – and I’d like to thank them all for their time, knowledge and expertise. All too often the brand obscures the individual. TheBusinessDesk.com is all about telling people’s stories, and so it’s always great to celebrate the people behind the success of a company. I look forward to following their journey in the future.”

Suffice to say, Elizabeth was a tad lost for words at the time and is far too modest to be quoted here so here’s what the Admin and More team thinks about her;

“This award is a tribute to Elizabeth’s tireless effort to make sure everyone is valued and recognised and comes at a perfect timing to celebrate Neurodiversity week. Her desire to help every and any individual shines through everything we do. From supporting our clients to the team behind the scenes, Admin and More is somewhere that everyone feels valued and appreciated.”

Meanwhile, as the trophy takes pride of place on her desk, Elizabeth and the team will get on with marking Neurodiversity Celebration Week, an initiative created to change perceptions and encourage inclusivity and equality.

So, this week we want to celebrate the great qualities individuals with neurological differences have. Whether that is Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, DCD, Dyscalculia, Tourette Syndrome, or more! We also want to bring awareness to some of the challenges they face within the workplace. Unfortunately, many neurodivergent individuals struggle at work due to the structure which is designed for the 80-85% neurotypical population.

Certain tasks, deadlines, or environments can feel daunting and frustrating due to a lack of thought or support by many employers. However, at Admin and More, diversity and inclusion are rooted within the heart of our business and are always celebrated, no matter what week it is!
