7 Top Tips for Leaving Your Business When You Go on Holiday!
As a proud business owner, it can be difficult to be able to switch off when you go on holiday or to even feel like you are able to leave your business to go away at all. You may find that you feel obliged to check and respond to emails every day or in the back of your mind you’re wondering whether everything is going to be okay and what you’ll need to do when you get back.
But holidays are vital! For recharging, gaining perspective, and enjoying the money and lifestyle that you have worked so hard for. So, it's a win-win situation for both you and your business! So here are our top tips for ensuring you get the most from your time away from the office:
1. Tell Your Clients
Inform all your clients of the dates you plan to be away two weeks and then one week before you go. This gives them the opportunity to plan and submit any requests before you leave.
2. Decide on a Point of Contact
Make sure clients know who they can contact in your absence. If you are a sole trader, a Virtual Assistant can be an excellent resource. At Admin and More, we offer a professional telephone answering service. We can take messages and provide basic information to customers whilst you are on holiday.
3. Warn Your Suppliers
Inform your suppliers ahead of time that you'll be away and provide contact details of the person taking care of things.
4. Let Someone Else Organise Your Emails
Ask the person in charge during your absence to check your emails at the end of each day and create a list summarising items that you need to respond to when you return. This will save you a lot of time on your first day back!
5. Hire a Virtual Assistant
Hire a Virtual Assistant to keep daily tasks running smoothly. This could be admin-based tasks, customer service or even keeping your social media profiles up to date. If you are looking to hire a VA, check out all the services that we can help you with here or book a free 1-2-1 consultation with us.
6. Have a Catch Up
If you really feel you can't completely leave the business, arrange a few catch-ups while you are away with the Virtual Assistant or whoever is managing things. Train them to summarise all the things you need to know or take action on in one email for you to discuss.
7. Let go!
Finally, force yourself to let go! Be present when on holiday, don’t worry about your business, and have a fantastic time!
We guarantee that with some planning, training, and challenging yourself to let go, you will find it possible to have a proper break and leave your business behind!
Bon Voyage!
